Madurai is home to thousands of peacocks and its most famous historical landmark, the Meenakshi Amman Temple, where a carved parrot is perched on the goddess' shoulder. Graceful details and motifs of the birds can be seen translated into furniture, soft furnishings and embroidery patterns on headboards and pillows.
