“The design for the living room and master bedrooms made them so vibrant and spacious.”
Based on the client’s specific requirements, the choices for materials and surface finishes were made with ease-of-maintenance in mind. Sleeper wood, laminates and brick panelling featured in this project’s materials and surfaces gallery.
Once the client understood the entire design process they were able to perceive the expense required and agreed to almost all our design suggestions. We were able to convey the practicality of our design interventions and they were very appreciative of our innovative solutions and felt that we perfectly incorporated their inputs to deliver their dream house.
Thus we were able to bring about design interventions like realigning the living and dining room spaces to make them look bigger and breaking a bedroom wall and making sliding wardrobes to give maximum storage. We also used a copper trellis of solid wood and glass with sliding shutters which helped create an informal and formal living area that could also be opened up as a bigger space.
By using chandeliers and wall installations, we were able to create focal high points throughout the house and wooden flooring was used to create a sense of warmth while also keeping costs down. Copper metal was used in the bedrooms as well as common areas to give an impression of opulence and wooden rafters were used in the ceiling to create a sense of grandeur.
“Once the design style was selected from various options developed, the Pencil & Monk team took complete charge of the design & build. The kitchen and living spaces were completely remodeled to contemporary aesthetic standards. Electricals, lighting, furniture and furnishings were part of the services offered and were executed flawlessly within the budget.”
Separate kitchen and living areas in a compact villa created boxed in spaces. By removing walls and creating a breakfast counter, we opened up the kitchen, making the entire kitchen/dining space look more spacious. Ample storage was also created in the kitchen and a wash basin was introduced with access from the dining area.
“The transformation from 3D design to final execution just as in the plan, created a huge impact. The fact that the project was completed in time and within the budget was highly appreciated.”
The kitchen was remodeled to create more storage space, and include a breakfast counter. Smaller sized bedrooms were specially designed with trundle beds and sliding wardrobe doors to maximise available space and make room for a study table. All material sourcing for the space was done by Pencil & Monk
“We took their brief of creating a coworking space and applied it to every aspect of our design. We designed a workshop and meeting space that could seamlessly convert into a 12 seater conference table from a smaller cluster of tables, which the client was very happy with.”
We were able to solve their requirement of solid wood tabletops by suggesting veneer-finish based desktops which are considerably more affordable as well. Indoor landscaping and natural lighting were used to a great effect to energise the workspace. A vibrant colour palette which included Zoho’s corporate colours was used throughout the space, and especially in the Plaza, a highly creative hub. Here, a container fulfilled multiple functions by serving as a super structure where AVs and presentations could be screened while the sub structure could be used for huddle spaces.
Design interventions were in the form of creating a number of war rooms, project rooms, idea exchange spaces, social hubs and casual meeting spaces that were strategically located throughout the layout to foster a greater sense of interaction between employees. A fun and colourful cafeteria was designed with different lights, installations, furniture and wall finishes creating a high communication space where work, interaction, food and fun came together.
To add to this effect, we used Boho-style furniture and decor. The entire look came together giving the space a Bohemian feel.

Madurai is home to thousands of peacocks and its most famous historical landmark, the Meenakshi Amman Temple, where a carved parrot is perched on the goddess' shoulder. Graceful details and motifs of the birds can be seen translated into furniture, soft furnishings and embroidery patterns on headboards and pillows.
Nestled amidst the rich backdrop of Pasumalai hill's greenery in Madurai, the property is home to a 150-year-old building. We were tasked with delivering a balanced design that drew on the heritage of Madurai while celebrating contemporary inspirations
We were able to overcome all the challenges thrown up by the space and the client trusted our judgement a 100%. They felt that the entire process was smooth and not stressful and were thrilled at the way their home turned out.
We were able to wow them by fulfilling their requirements of providing ample storage space within the kitchen and cabinets and creating small modifications like concealed wiring for a large TV that we set up in the centre of the living room in a semi-partition wall.
Design interventions were made by moving the bed to the centre of the master bedroom, thereby freeing up space behind the bed for a massive 10×8 feet wardrobe, and by creating a niche in the headboard panel with concealed electrical points since there were no side tables.
The use of Industrial furniture and metal accents helped us match the rugged look of the cement finish walls.
